I love travelling… Global or local there’s nothing like exploring new places, finding hidden gems and enjoying unique experiences. But there’s one season each year that you’ll find me close to home, and that’s because fall in Canada, especially in Ontario, is the most beautiful place to be. and being the adventurous soul that I am I’ve discovered that some of my favourite fall memories come from experiences that are a little unconventional. From pedalling through the treetops in Quebec to racing down a mountain in Ontario, if you’re looking for something a little different this fall, these are my top 7 Unique Fall Activities in Canada You Need to Try!

1. Vélo Volant – Quebec

📍 169 Chemin Staines, Sutton (Glen Sutton), QC

🌐 Website | @audiablevert

Imagine bicycling through a forest, except instead of being on the ground your actually sailing through the air! The minute I heard about The Vélo Volant it became a bucket list MUST which took me over 5 years to check off. Those flying bicycles for me, were definitely worth the wait!

Reaching heights of up to 100 ft off the ground, the Velo Volant can seem intimidated at first. Guests peddle their way around 1km suspended aerial route through the trees but trust me when I say that once I was up in the canopy, peddling at my own pace and surrounded by breathtaking views, it really wasn’t that scary at all!

I visited during the fall making our experience a 10/10! An experience unlike any other the Velo Volant was definitely worth visiting!

Info:

  • Open May 1st – October 15th
  • $50 adults
  • $35 for youths (12-16)
  • 10am – 4pm
  • 1 km takes approximately 30 -45 mins

My JenzJourneys tip: Don’t rush! Take your time, look around, and enjoy the views!

2. Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster – Blue Mountain, Ontario

2/5 Awesome Autumn Activities... Enjoying fall views making my way up the Ridge Runner alpine coaster

Enjoying fall views making my way up the Ridge Runner alpine coaster

The Blue Mountains, Ontario

📍 169 Chemin Staines, Sutton (Glen Sutton), QC

🌐 Website | @bluemtnvillage

If you’ve been following my JenzJourneys page for a while, you know that I have a soft spot for the Ridge Runner at Blue Mountain. It was one of my first viral reels back when reels were first unveiled. And zipping around the curves and bends in the fall was the ultimate Jen level approved adrenaline rush.

Canada’s first mountain coaster, the Ridge Runner takes riders 770 ft up to the top and then the track winds 1 km down hitting speeds up to 42 kms/hr. There are handbrakes on either side of the cart that allow riders to control their own speed.

The entire Blue Mountain area is beautiful in autumn and the views of the escarpment and countryside extend for miles.  There’s lots of other on site activities too!

Info:

  • $20 – $25 for adults
  • $16 – $20 for 12 and under
  • Multi-packs and day passes available

My JenzJourneys tip: If you’re visiting on a busy fall weekend, allow patience and extra time. A great day trip idea, you can explore the village, grab something to eat, and enjoy a hike or gondola ride too!

3. Giant Pumpkin Regatta – Shelburne, Nova Scotia

Shelburne, Nova Scotia

🌐 Website | @exploreshelburnecounty

Okay, so this one might just actually win the award for the craziest Canadian tradition! Every year on Canadian Thanksgiving weekend The Giant Pumpkin Festival & Regatta takes place on Shelburne Nova Scotia’s historic waterfront. The whole festival is a vibe with the giant pumpkin weigh-in, pumpkin carving, food vendors, family activities, but the highlight is definetely the regatta where a bunch of giant pumpkins race with their captains for first, second and third place titles.

The magic is in the seeds for these ginormous fruits and participants not only decorate their giant pumpkins but dress up themselves too! And yes, lol it is every bit as entertaining as you can imagine.

This quirky, community-driven, event is hilarious and memorable!

Info:

  • After the race is over anyone can try paddling in a pumpkin for free
  • Sign a waiver and you’re off

My JenzJourneys tip: Get there early to enjoy the festival and get front row seating for the race.

5. Heritage Train Ride – Muskoka

Muskoka Heritage Place, Huntsville, Ontario

📍 164-200 Muskoka Heritage Pl, Huntsville, ON

🌐 Website | @muskokaheritageplace

An impromptu find, thanks to a highway sign, there’s something about an old-fashioned train ride that brings out the little kid in me! Surrounded by Mukoka’s Fall colours we climbed aboard the historic Portage Flyer for a scenic journey. The ride was short and sweet which actually added to its charm. 6. Escape Room in a Corn Maze – Buzzing Bees Adventure Farm, Durham Region

Sunderland, Ontario

📍 1070 Brock Concession Rd 5, Township Of Brock, ON

🌐 Website | @buzzingbeesadventurefarm

There’s treasure to be found and it’s hidden inside Durham Region’s best kept secret! This unique fall experience is an impressive full scale Escape Room inside a 10 acres corn maze. The Escape Room has 8 different puzzle stations and each station offers an easier and harder puzzle to chose from allowing for different ages and abilities to participate!

Back for their 4th season, Buzzing Bees Adventure Farm owners Rick and Stephanie choose a new design each year for their maze and this year’s Pirate theme was a ton of fun. Once all eight puzzles are solved you can use the answers to try to unlock the pirate’s treasure. I consider myself somewhat of an escape room and corn maze enthusiast so I can’t believe this is the first year I heard about this carefully thought out adventure.

There are a ton of other farm activities to enjoy, including pedal karts, pumpkin bowling, an elastic-band shooting range, slides and more. And don’t forget to try their insanely delicious Kettle Corn!

Info:

  • $10 pp
  • Friday: Noon – 5pm
  • Saturday: 10am – 6pm
  • Sunday: 10am – 6pm
  • No reservations required
  • 8 Escape Room Stations

My JenzJourneys tip: Decide before you enter whether you’re going to photograph the maze map or attempt it completely “blind.” If you’re competitive like me, you might want to test your navigation skills which definitely takes a lot longer!

Okay, so this might be one of the most unusual fall experiences Ontario has to offer, thanks to our growing agri-tourism industry. Over the past few decades, local farmers are finding unique and fun ways to share their farms with all of us! Not only a great photo op, the flooded Muskoka Cranberry bog with surrounded by the vibrant fall colours combined with our stylish hipwaiters emsemble but wading through the floating cranberries it a ton of fun too!

An unforgettable girls trip, family fun or date night adventure.

Standing knee- to low-hip-deep in a sea of cranberries, surrounded by the beautiful Muskoka landscape, makes for an riviting photo op most of the visitors spent their time taking tons of pictures, and although we defininately did that too we held our own tripod relay race, and cranberry battle too!
