An adventure 5 years in the making, our girls weekend escape to Smiths Falls was definitely worth the wait! Smiths Falls first hit my radar in 2020 when I journeyed to the RMEO for their unique overnight stay in a caboose. During my visit I excitedly learned that a luxury circa 1899 dining car was coming soon that would host speciality experiences like afternoon tea. Needless to say fast forwarding to 2025, it was high time that I checked high tea off my must do experience list! Our Girls’ Weekend with High Tea in a VINTAGE train in Smiths Falls was a true balance of activities and relaxation and a great choice for a girls weekend escape!
High Tea in a Vintage Dining Car
The inspiration for our destination, our weekend kicked off in the most elegant way – high tea at the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario. This quick to sell out monthly experience takes place in the beautifully restored vintage dining car #4006. A space shared by the upper echelon of society in days gone by, the setting transported us to another era. Between the delicate china, tasty treats, and our girly giggles, it was the perfect way to start our adventure.

Victorian Era AirBnb/Pet friendly Smiths Falls:
A pleasant surprise for an unexpected twist we loved how pet inclusive Smiths Falls is. Thanks to a last minute doggy sitter cancellation we asked Experience Smiths Falls for dog friendly overnight suggestions. They connected us with a Victorian era airbnb that perfectly aligned with our needs thanks to it’s central location, pet friendly designation and circa 1890’s design. The property, considered a significant heritage property, is known as the Groundkeeper’s house (aka the Carriage House) to The Elmcroft Mansion built in 1895. Thanks to it’s proximity to the downtown main strip we popped back in often to visit with Rambo, as well as to relax and unwind. Looking for your perfect Smiths Falls stay? Dining in a Converted Bank:
Our first night’s dinner was at The Vault Eatery set in a converted bank. This sophisticated yet cozy venue had incredible food and friendly wait staff setting a surprisingly high bar for what to expect on the Smiths Falls foodie scene. And yes, the former bank’s vault is still on site but is currently used for storage so we were unable to see it.

Patio Vibes at The Lockmasters Taphouse:
Warm summer nights are something to savour in Canada, so after dinner we decided to explore. As we strolled along the beautiful newly redone main strip, live music began to fill the air. We found ourselves floating towards the fun arriving at The Lockmasters Taphouse . We lucked into a table on the patio where we enjoyed nightcaps and live music before heading back to our home away from home for the weekend. We actually visited twice because their daytime patio views are a Smiths Falls must visit!

Yoga on a Secret Island:
Saturday morning we headed to one of Smiths Falls’ most magical spots—the secret island under the bridge. Shaded by an ancient tree we rolled out our yoga mats excited for this complimentary Smiths Falls summer activity. Our full moon yoga session felt both grounding and restorative as the sound of the Rideau Canal’s waters flowed around us. Instructors from The Healing Nook volunteer their time to guide these complimentary yoga sessions and donations are accepted and given to the Falls Food Hub.

C’est si bon! After working up our appetites, we went for brunch at C’est Tout Bakery & Bistro and LOVED everything about it. A cute little spot located right on the main strip it is picture perfect both inside and out. Their pet friendly patio allowed Rambo to join us for their delectable delights. The food and drinks were amazing and the staff were friendly and attentive.

Kayaking & Paddleboarding on the Rideau Canal:
Next we joined Pedal and Paddle for a mid day kayak and paddleboard session on the Rideau Canal. This was another highlight and top fav during our Smiths Falls escape. We loved being on the water taking in iconic Smiths Falls views (such as the Scherzer rolling lift bascule bridge) from the unique vantage point of the water. The blend of history and nature was unforgettable, and ironically we felt both energized and relaxed by the experience . Fun fact! If you opt for kayaking only you can paddle through the locks for a truly unforgettable experience! (paddleboards are not permitted in the locks.)

Nightlife at Bowie’s:
Blessed with a second beautiful summer’s night we headed over to Bowie’s. This popular neighborhood bar is known for their live music and event space which as it turned out was hosting a drag show that evening. Treasure Hunting: Antiquing & Thrifting
Our girls’ weekend wouldn’t have been complete without a little shopping. Wandering down the main strip we popped in and out of boutique shops while taking in the beauty of Smiths Falls’ murals and flowers as we went. Looking for some thrifting finds we visited Twice in Nice before heading over to The New Old Town – Antique Store which was a cool trip down memory lane. There was 3 sections to explore including a vintage antiques section pre-dating the 1900’s, a newer antique section and a collectible toy section too. We had some fun laughs as we realized how many of the newer antique treasures our parents still own today!
