Worth the Journey

Located just over 7 hours from the GTA, the drive to Timmins is quite an adventure! Those hours flew by though thanks to great conversation and INCREDIBLE scenery like the Canadian Shield and Ontario’s many lakes. Easy to find, Cedar Meadows has signs that share the resort’s proximity as we approached.

Don’t drive or have a car?! Now worries! Thanks to Emma I have alternate options for you to explore!

  • Fly with Porter approximately $300 per person, very time efficient and they often have promo codes equating to what you’d pay in gas for one person.
  • Bus from Union Station using Ontario Northland buses. It has 1 trip per day to Timmins and takes about 12 hrs $120 one way.
  • Train options coming in 2026

Arrival!

Check in is at the main lodge and there we were given our cabin card keys. Reception shared general information about the resort, the spa, and about our Sleeping with Wolves Wolf Cabin! Our first stop was the Nordic Spa to unwind as our cabin was prepared for our arrival. We spent time enjoying in the hot and cold plunge pools, quiet room, steam room, sauna and relaxing by the fire.

First Impression!

The Wolf Cabins are numbered from 306-311 and I love that they have their own driveways with space for two vehicles. The cabins sleep up to 4 adults so this is a lovely convenience that most wouldn’t think of! We left our luggage in the truck, excited to get our first glimpse at our wolf pack! I knew from online pictures that the glass bedroom was where this magic would take place so the child in me intended to rush to that highlight. The adult in me however in was slowed by the aesthetics and TLC touches that we couldn’t help but appreciate! The sliding bathroom barn door, wolf artwork throughout and table set for two that was a thoughtful touch!

***The MOST POPULAR question I get asked about our wolf stay is how we avoided contact with the wolves when we entered our cabin? As the picture above shows our front door and the wood fence on either side of our cabin, that is topped with barbed wire. The fence dives the cabin in half and the back half of the cabin (the wolves area) does not have doors. Visitors also do not have gate access to enter to the other side of the fence. Guests and wolves are therefore completely safe from each other!

Meeting our Wolf Pack!

We made our way through our Wolf Cabin to the final piece de resistance, the STUNNING glass wolf-view bedroom. It was picture perfect and we were ecstatic that we were going to spend the next 18 hrs, including an overnight here. It was then that our adventure unveiled the ultimate, unexpected highlight – behind the chair at the foot of the bed I realized that one of young wolf pups, Diesel, was sleeping against the glass wall of our room! Apparently the Cabin’s glass walls are heated, creating a cozy spot for this little guy to enjoy and it’s not uncommon to come face to face with him. We took some pics and when he woke up and left we unpacked and got ready for our night. We were surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature which were the perfect backdrop for this immersive experience!

Overnight with Our Wolf Pack!

As night fell, the true magic of the Wolf Overnight Stay began. One by one the 11 magnificent pack members emerged. The two brown pups and the Omega Sable spent their time in the visibility of the cabins. Diesel and Stormy, are almost a year old and will be black by summer and were adorably affectionate together! Their siblings Astro and Luna are grey more shy. The adult wolves Bear, Smoke, Silver, Raven, Axel and Myloo spent their time playing and chasing each other in and out of view from the forest and I noticed that the packs activity cycled; sleep then active, then back to sleep etc. With bated breath we waited for each new cycle to begin.  Mesmerized, I barely slept, but the adjustable  massage bed was very comfy none the less! The wolves were really rowdy around 2am and even woke my friend from her sleep!

Conclusion:

As the sun rose, sadly, I began to count down the hours that we had left with our new wolf family. I watched the wolves nap, awaiting their next cycle of activity to begin! Goodbyes are hard but thankfully our hearts and cameras were full of memories that we will cherish forever thanks to our rare opportunity to visit the “Sleeping with Wolves”- NEW experience in Ontario!
