The Hotel’s History

In April of 1975, the 38 story, two tower Harbour Castle Hotel opened with 963 rooms! As time went on the hotel felt it needed a makeover. It was during this makeover that the oversight occurred. The suite formally known as The Vice Regal Suite was redone but somehow one of the bedrooms in the suite got missed! Thanks to this massive oversight, The Forgotten Hotel Room at the Westin Harbour Castle, is able to transport us back in time, to a glimpse of the way the rooms looked in 1975!

The Huron Suite in the South Tower

The Westin Harbour Castle, offers several luxury suites to choose from! These suites are located in both the North and South towers and have spectacular city and waterfront views. For our story, the magic takes place in The Huron Suite in the Westin’s South Tower. The Huron Suite has south and west facing views and our forgotten room also enjoys both CN Tower and waterfront views!

A step back in time!

Walking into the room is literally like teleporting back to a suite room from the 1970’s. Beautifully carved wooden furniture, ornate light fixtures and thick dark draping drapes are the first things I noticed. Expensive wallpaper indicative of the times still decorates the walls and the pineapple curtain rods were a nice touch. From a short term business perspective, I can understand why the Westin Harbour Castle would want to upgrade the decor. It is VERY different from their current business style suites and more reminiscent of the train line hotels from days gone by, but there is something amazing about this find that I personally feel is worth preserving!

As with most good things, they often come to an end and like Cinderella, this story has an expiry date. In October of 2022, the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel is set to do another full renovation of the South tower. The renovations are anticipated to be completed by May of 2023 and this time the forgotten room in the Huron Suite won’t get forgotten!
