Did you hear the exciting news!?  The highly anticipated Vettä Nordic Spa is opening on January 3rd! We were invited to their soft launch and jumped at the opportunity to share our “sneak” peek of what to expect with all of you!

Booking our “soft launch” visit!

Our Vettä Nordic Spa hydrotherapy visit began online, choosing our day and then a 2hrs time slot. Time slots are 9am-11am, 1pm-3pm and 5pm-7pm. I chose 1pm-3pm because Vettä is flexible about guests departure times and my friend Simone had booked a 3pm massage. Vettä’s massage services are very popular, Simone secured the last massage appointment for that day. *Pro Tip: Make your reservations early to avoid disappointment! We received our confirmation emails and we were all set! *Pro Tip #2: Read the confirmation email! (see bottom for more details)

What’s included in a Vettä Nordic Spa Visit?

A visit to Vettä includes most of the comforts you would expect! Comforts such as a bottle of water, a robe for walking around in and two towels are all part of your spa booking. The robe and towels are found in your complimentary locker and the bottle of water is given at check-in. A self serve water refill station is located on the lower level of the main building by the changing rooms. The cashless payment system was great! A waterproof bracelet is assigned to you at check-in which is then connected to your credit card for all your on site purchases. The changing rooms offer mini shampoo and conditioner bottles, hair dryers with diffusers and more!

Our Vettä Nordic Spa Day!

Our spa day started with great driving conditions so we arrived at Vettä just before 2pm. Greeted at the door, we completed our Covid screening and then proceeded to the front desk where we received our bracelets and water. Next we went to the changeroom, chose our lockers, got our towels and robes and then went outside for our experience! We began with one of the warm relaxation pools and spent the rest of our day and evening utilizing all of the hot and cold experiences that Vettä has to offer! Simone left for her massage just before 3pm and I made some new friends in her absence while exploring the saunas and spending time by the campfire. We arranged to meet up again at 4pm in the changeroom so that we could get a bite to eat after her massage.

The Finnish Inspired Savu Bistro at Vettä

The Savu Bistro uses locally sourced foods, supporting their surrounding communities. As a result everything is super fresh! For dinner, there was quite a few options to choose from so we decided to share 3 small dishes to expand our tasting options! We enjoyed the soup of the day, a fancy sausage and a mushroom flatbread! We each had the sparkling pear drink “mocktail” which was INCREDIBLY tasty, we highly recommend it! Being a new establishment, it will be about a month before they receive their liquor licence. The Bistro has floor to ceiling windows that look out to the spa areas, offering a peaceful view. I loved the ambiance that their decorative fire and Christmas Tree offered. We paid with our bracelets and headed back out for more hydrotherapy. (I asked our server about tipping but she said they do not accept tips and thanked us for asking!)

Maximizing your hydrotherapy experience!

To maximize your experience Vettä suggests a cycle. Begin by heating up your body’s temperature with Vettä’s Kuuma/hot treatments. These include the steam rooms, saunas, hot stone room and the amazing smelling exfoliating salt scrub and showers. 15-20 mins of hot treatment dilates blood vessels, reduces blood pressure, eliminates toxins and more! Next, cool off with a 5 seconds cold plunge in one of Vettä’s Kulmä/cold treatments. These include the cold plunge pool or bucket or walking in the snow on a cold day like ours! Cold treatments activate the nervous system improving circulation, reduce lactic acid build up and more! Finally, and most importantly, is the Levätä/relax treatments which include the warm relaxation pools, cozy fire rooms, or enjoying a massage or food at the Bistro (additional fees). Relaxation treatments rebalance the central nervous system, stabilize heart rates and more! Optimize your experience by repeating this cycle 3 times!

Why I specified reading the confirmation email!

Remember my Pro Tip #2? To read the confirmation email? The confirmation email provides important details and tips about what to bring like your own sandals and sunglasses. We missed the important sandal memo as did a few other guests. Vettä has heated concrete walk-ways which keeps snow and ice from forming on them, a lovely touch, but they were still ice cold for barefoot in the winter which did slightly hinder our experience, our own fault of course! Vettä sells sandals for $30 but they weren’t our normal style so we couldn’t justify the purchase as they would have probably ended up being a one time use rather than an investment.

Final Thoughts!

Visiting in the winter meant that the sunset earlier at 4:45 pm and by 5:30pm it was completely dark outside. Thanks to this, we were able to experience Vettä by twilight, a beautiful sight! Daylight at Vettä provides a peaceful setting, but all lit up at night was an extra treat! As a result we continued the hydrotherapy cycle for another few hours and finally decided to go home around 8:30pm. I hope you all enjoyed this information and that it helped you prep for your visit to Vettä Nordic Spa – Opening soon!
