Did you know that Marriott Hotels loyalty program Marriott Bonvoy offers a “Best Rate Guarantee”? It’s true! And, not only do they guarantee to have the best price but Marriott will actually also beat the lowest price found by up to 25%. This is because when guests book through a third party app like Expedia Marriott has to pay out a commission which they’d prefer to avoid! My family created some of our fondest memories at Marriott properties; we love them! Recently I booked a stay at the Delta Hotels Toronto and found it cheaper on Expedia. I called Guest Services, but they had never heard the “Best Rate Guarantee”. (To their defence this claim has to be filed online.) Regardless, I thought I’d take a minute and share it here so everyone can learn about Marriott’s BEST RATE GUARANTEE!
Best Rate Guarantee at Marriott Bonvoy
With Marriott Bonvoy’s Best Rate Guarantee policy, if you find a better rate elsewhere, you have 24 hours after making your reservation to submit a claim.
A few other fine print conditions apply:
- The price must be found on a website or a mobile application
- It must be for the same hotel, dates, number of people and the same room type booked
- It must be for the same type of rate booked (free cancellation, prepaid, non-refundable, etc.)
- CAA, Senior, promotion, package or other rates are not eligible
- Secret auction websites are not eligible (like Hotwire)
The claim form asks for your personal information, your reservation information and comparison rate information. Proof of the lower price is not required when you submit the form. They may ask for it after however so make sure you keep your screenshots showing the site, date, hotel, room category etc. The form will also ask you to choose between the following:
- receive an additional 25% discount (20% for Design Hotels)
- or 5,000 Marriott Bonvoy points ($65 value)
If they accept your request, Marriott Bonvoy then sends you an email saying they will match the rate found elsewhere. I received my approval email within 12 hrs of submitting my claim. Surprisingly, they did not ask for proof for my claim, I think because my price match was found on Expedia. I opted for the price match with 25% discount and ended up saving over $100 + tax.
