Getting there
Located in Timmins, it’s no secret that the 7hrs drive from Toronto is a substantial undertaking, but I will say, that it is definitely a drive worth making! The are plenty of picturesque stops en route and the views are equally breathtaking in both summer and winter! So thanks to great company and beautiful scenery the time passed quickly and we arrived in what felt sooner than expected!
Don’t drive or have a car?! Now worries! Thanks to Emma I have alternate options for you to explore!
- Fly with Porter approximately $300 per person, very time efficient and they often have promo codes equating to what you’d pay in gas for one person.
- Bus from Union Station using Ontario Northland buses. It has 1 trip per day to Timmins and takes about 12 hrs $120 one way.
- Train options coming in 2026
Cedar Meadows Resort & Spa
Cedar Meadows Resort & Spa is home to 175 acres of forest, meadows and plenty of wildlife! During our first visit in February we didn’t realize how much the resort had to offer beyond the Sleeping with the Wolves experience! This stay however, we came prepared booking two nights instead of one to fully enjoy everything! From the on site Nordic Spa to the INCREDIBLY delicious restaurant The Voyageur Dining Room, the Wilderness Tour to feed the elk, reindeer and visit the bison to of course the “Sleeping with the Wolves”overnight we did it all and loved every minute! You can read about our first visit and pro tips here:
Pro Tip: If you’d like to do the “Sleeping with the Wolves experience” and stay two nights but don’t feel that two nights is in your budget, Cedar Meadows Resort and Spa has 49 other stay options to choose from! You can book one night in the Wolf Cabin and one night in a different room type! Sometimes Expedia has deals for their other room types here: (Wolf stays are not bookable on Expedia)
The Wolf Cabins
The Wolf Cabins are numbered from 306-311, each with their own driveway. We had cabin 308 this visit and cabin 307 during our last stay in the winter. I found it interesting that each cabin has their own perspective and views despite being side by side although nicely spaced out. I don’t recall having a BBQ and deck furniture on the front porch during our winter visit but we did enjoy them this stay! The cabins sleeps up to 4 adults, two in the bedroom and two on the pull out couch in the living room. Being in our fab years we all loved the artwork and elevated touches that the stay offers guests. The sliding bathroom barn door, wolf artwork throughout and table set for 4 (or the amount of people staying) is always a thoughtful touch! Book your sleeping with the Wolves Stay here:
Spa Grande Nature & The Nordic Spa
If you’re looking to relax Spa Grande Nature has everything for you! From massage to facials, body treatments & more you’re certain to find something you love! For us it was The Nordic Spa’s Nordic Cycle alternating between the hot & cold baths! I love hydrotherapy and the healthy benefits that come from stimulating our circulation, producing adrenaline and transforming it into endorphins! It gives an instant mood immune system boost! I find I sleep better after and overall feel more relaxed.

Wilderness Tours
A great way to explore the grounds at Cedar Meadows is to book their wilderness tour that takes place daily at 3pm. We loved the nostalgia of a wagon ride but enjoyed the bougie additions such as a covered roof and cushioned seats. As the tractor pulled us throughout the grounds we saw lots of wildlife including swans, elk, reindeer and bison! The best part was the stops to feed the elf and reindeer while getting some up close pictures with them too! (we weren’t allowed to feed the bison but our guide did.)
The Wolf Pup Experience
The highlight was watching the wolves from the immersive and protected vantage point of our bedroom. The walls are made of heated glass which maximizes the viewing opportunities of the wolfpack year round. The adults seem to understand that they are safely separated from us humans so close encounters at the cabin windows are not uncommon. The wolf pups however are still discovering the world around them and although they are adorable and curious they are timid and cautious as well. The pups sleep in their den waking at the break of dawn to enjoy some playtime before the heat of the day sets in. Eager and lucky visitors will see them playing together at dawn and at dusk as the pack cautiously watches over their young. Seeing this overload of cuteness definitely warmed our hearts!
An Overnight Adventure
Wolves are typically crepuscular meaning they prefer times of low light and don’t necessarily stay up all night. And although the wolf pups retire to their den at night the adults definitely put on a show. The cool night air is the perfect time for running and playing while the “children” are asleep. Our favourite part was the occasional wolf howl completing wolf dream escape!
Final Thoughts
As four women in our fabulous years we enjoyed this rare opportunity to have a girls weekend away and catch up in an unforgettable setting. They say creating memories through unique experiences is a way to strengthen bonds and this escape is definitely meant for all! Family, couples and friends will enjoy this rare glimpse into the world of wolves and the chance to Sleep with Baby Wolves at Cedar Meadows Resort & Spa is something that you’ll never forget!
