Why Kolkata?
Have you ever been on a mission trip?! I have had the privilege of being part of 9 mission trips that have brought me all over the world. My most recent mission trip was in 2019 when I travelled to Kolkata with a team to volunteer at Mother Theresa. Prior to this trip, I was ignorant about how many wonderful places and experiences India has to offer but as I travelled through Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Udipur, then ending in Kolkata for our work placement I learned how incredible a country India is!
Kolkata is known as the “cultural capital of India”, it is one of India’s largest cities and it is full of history, but it is really not associated as a dream vacation destination. This is because Kolkata is also known for being quite crowded and noisy which is why, our team leader selected “The Oberoi Grand” as our hotel during our stay. This lovely gem proved to be the perfect choice; a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city and a welcomed reprieve from the hectic hustle and bustle that surrounds it!
The Oberoi Group affords its guests “Old World Luxury” thanks to their attention to detail; a quality yet to be mastered by the new luxury hotel chains. I felt like a princess throughout my stay thanks to their dedicated staff’s impromptu surprises and to their interesting stories of overachievements and successes that kept me enthralled!
In light of this, I’d like to make special mention of the staff who made my stay so incredible, they are Sandhya, Amitava, Evan, Tvisha, Priyanka, Sandeep, Tshering, Sreyashi, Deepak, Rahul & Sourav.
